It’s okay if Christmas isn’t your thing

A blog on things to do to avoid Christmas

So it is coming round to Christmas time. However, this isn’t always for everyone. It is okay not to like Christmas and for it not to be “The most wonderful time of the year”. In this blog we will be discussing some things you can do to avoid Christmas as much as possible.

1. Focus on yourself

This is so important especially if you find this time of year hard. It is important to do some self care and look after yourself. A great idea for this is going to the gym. There are lots of gyms around Coventry such as the university gym, pure gym and JD gyms. There is also lots of deals on where you can get money off your first months and student deals so be sure to check these out on UNiDAYS.

Also, have a pamper night with some face masks, music and your favourite movie. You don’t have to watch Christmas movies at this time of year. You can still watch all your favourite classic films that have nothing to do with Christmas. There are some great ones on Netflix and Amazon Prime too.

2. Create a vision board

This is a great way to set yourself some goals for the new year. Go on Pinterest and pick some pictures of what you’d like to do.

This could be places you would like to go, making new friendships, focusing on work, general goals you would like to hit, things you would like to do.

Purchase a pin board off amazon and get creative. Maybe treat yourself to some nice pens and make it really nice and creative.

This is a great way to focus on what you want to do and how your going to get there.

3. Have a cooking night with friends

Spending time with friends is a great way to take your min doff christmas and just focus on having fun. Why not do a potluck? This is where you all make a meal and bring it along. That way everyone gets to try a range of dishes and have a fun evening together.

You could also do a bring-a-board night. This is where everyone does different themes either colours or starters mains, desserts and drinks and theme it around the board. You could have all kinds of things and then sit with friends, chat, watch a show or just enjoy the food. Maybe play some pool in your accommodation.

4. Do an activity

This is a great idea to do something completely unrelated.

These could be:

  • Going bowling
  • Mini Golf
  • Virtual Darts
  • Pool
  • Go Karting
  • Ice skating

5. Get into reading

Reading is a great way to distract your mind. You could take yourself into town for a walk and get into Waterstones. There are hundreds of books to explore and you could make a day out of it by having a cake and coffee in the café.

There are so many books that are completely unrelated to Christmas and a good book can give you something to look forward to at the end of a long day.

6. You could also come along to one of our ResLife events

We have some that arent related to Christmas such as games and chat and pizza and chat. Keep an eye ohn your emails and our Instagram @reslifecovuni for all the updates.

We hope this blog has helped you with some ideas of things you can do around this time if you don’t feel Christmassy. Remember the Reslife team is always around if you want a chat or some support!
