My experience as someone who creates content for Reslife

Hello everyone! I’m Leila and in this blog I will be discussing what it means to create content for Reslife as a Reslife assistant, my experience as an uni student and how I have found it and advice for new students.

I have now been a Reslife assistant for 3 years when I first joined my course on Disaster and Emergency Management.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience in Coventry. Having moved away from home in Newcastle which is generally a 3-5 hour drive from Coventry depending on traffic.

Upon moving into my accommodation at Bishop Gate I was very nervous and did not know if I would make any friends. Everyone was very welcoming and keen to make friends and meet eachother, from there I went and did lots of things as a flat.

People in my course group chat also asked if I wanted to do anything and I was keen to do so. One of the girls I met there I am still friends with today.

My advice to new students would be to really put yourself out there, be confident, try and have fun and meet as many people as you can. Continue to do this as we go into semester 2. It is never too late to make new friends, some of my friends have been made in second and third years too. There is always new opportunities to join new societies and get involved in new things.

When I first became a Reslife assistant I was very nervous and unsure how I would do. Over the past 3 years Reslife has significantly improved my confidence. I am now able to talk to anyone about anything.

It is a great job that has made me excited to go into work.

As well as doing events for the students, another great part of the job is the content creation, I really enjoy this part of the job. Through content creation I create blogs, TikToks, instagram posts, posters and event uploads. This has offered me essential marketing skills I would not have been able to gain otherwise.

It is a really fun part of the job and allows me to be creative, create my own ideas and have fun with it.

I hope this blog has helped give you some inspiration whilst you’re at university! Have fun with it, enjoy and do your assignments.
