Theme parks can be a great day out! You can have fun with friends or family, explore the rides, have nice food and drinks and overall just a good day out. In this blog we will be looking at the theme parks in and around the West Midlands that you could access from Coventry or are not too far to travel to and from.
Alton towers-
This is my personal favourite. This is a huge theme park near Stoke on Trent. You can access there by getting the train to stoke on Trent and then a bus from there or a train to derby. They also offer a coach service from Birmingham. They close on November 11th for the winter so head down there this weekend or next for a great time.
They have many big rollercoasters including my favourite which is Nemesis. This has just been reopened and redone so is now even bigger and better. I am yet to try it out but I am very excited to go and try this very soon. They also have the famous 14 loop the smiler which is also great fun. If big rollercoasters arent your thing there is many other rides to enjoy such as the sky ride which gives great view of the park, the blade boat and the river rapids. There is also lots of fairground games with a chance to win a prize should you wish.
Some other great rollercoasters to try there include Rita, thirteen, oblivion, galactica and the new wicker man one which is also great. There is so much to try there and I would really recommend this park. They also do student tickets for £21 so be sure to check these out.
Drayton Manor-
This is a theme park and zoo so is perfect for those who love rides and those who don’t as there is something for everyone! Drayton manor has over 50 rides including a mining rollercoaster, the wave rollercoaster, river rapids, swings and lots more. 4 lands with lots of different themes.
They also have a 15 acre zoo with over 500 animals such as flamingos, monkeys, red pandas, reptiles and lots more. This park is great fun and great to spend a day there with your friends. Tickets are £30 but they also do student discount through student beans. This is only a 40 minute drive from Coventry.
You can get there by driving or get the 110 bus from Birmingham which takes you close to the park. You can also get a train to Tamworth train station and then get a bus or taxi from here.
West Midlands safari Park-
This isnt as large as the previous 2 theme parks in terms of rides but it does make for a great day out. If you love animals then this is the place to go! If you have a car then they have a great drive through experience where the animals can come up to your car as you drive through and see the animals roam free around. They also have a safari walk through where you can walk and see some of the other animals.
There is also lots of rides, which are mainly smaller ones but there is rides available. These include swings, carousel, pirate ship, mini rollercoasters and more.
They have some great animals at the park too including giraffes, lions, penguins, hippos and so many more. Tickets are around £20 when booking in advance
This is an hour drive from Coventry. Kidderminster is the nearest train station to the park.
Cadbury world-
This is more of an adventure day than specifically a theme park but it is overall a great day out. I came here a few years ago and had a great time and even better you get lots of free chocolate! You will go through learning all about chocolate getting lots of free tasters and chocolate bars as you go. There is also a 4D adventure and a chocolate quest ride.
There is also a section where you can get involved in the chocolate and practice your piping skills by learning with a member of the team. You will learn about Cadbury’s history whilst playing games and having lots of fun. There is also a great café and shop where you can buy some exclusive chocolates!
Tickets are around 20 pound but they also do a student deal.
This is a 45 minute drive from Coventry and is just a 10 minute train from Birmingham new street.
I hope this blog has inspired you to go and explore some of the theme parks local to the West Midlands. These are a great chance to get out and have some fun!
