Good day to my readers, I hope you’re having a great day for the next 100 years. Life can feel like a constant whirlwind - whether it’s university, work, or personal commitments. It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind. But every now and then, we all need to hit pause and just breathe. Taking a day for yourself can make all the difference. Recently a fellow ResLife assistant Leila made a wholesome TikTok about spending a relaxing evening, and it got me thinking about how important it is to take time for ourselves.
Inspired by her video, I decided to share a glimpse into what my perfect relaxing day looks like, when I just need to recharge.
11 AM - Slow mornings are the best mornings (or noons?)
The best way to start a relaxing day is to wake up late. I don’t care what everyone says, if it’s a relaxing day, there is no reason for you to wake up early. The earliest I wake up is around 11 AM, and even then, I don’t get out of bed right away. Instead, I spend a good hour or so scrolling through TikTok or reading some manga. It’s my little guilty pleasure, and honestly, it’s the perfect way to wake up slowly and without stress.
12 PM - Lazy "Brunch"
When I finally roll out of bed, it’s time for "breakfast" (though my friends like to call it brunch or lunch at this point). If I’m feeling good, I’ll whip up some egg avocado toast. If not, I just go with something super simple - like a bowl of cereal. Low effort, maximum vibes. Plus it’s a lazy day, we’re not aiming for gourmet.
1 PM - Maybe a walk, maybe not
Sometimes I’ll feel like going for a walk, especially if the weather is nice. But honestly, it really depends on my mood that day. It’s a relaxing day, so I’m not pressuring myself to do anything. If I don’t go out, I’ll put on some relaxing music and pull out my sketchbook.
If you haven’t already, try picking up a hobby and doing it on your days off. For me, it’s been crocheting - I picked it up a while ago, and now I do it whenever I have free time. Time flies so fast when you’re really into something like this. After a few hours of sketching and crocheting, I’m usually exhausted (don’t judge - it’s a lot of effort for a "relaxing" day, okay?)
3 PM - Treat yourself with a takeout and shows
By mid-afternoon, it’s time to treat myself. I order some takeout (because cooking? Not today) and maybe throw in a dessert if I’m feeling it. While eating, I put on a show - yes, I’m definitely an iPad kid when it comes to meal times.
If you’re looking for a new anime to watch, I highly recommend Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End or Dungeon Meshi—both are wholesome and really fun. Not into anime? No worries, K-dramas are always a good choice. I recently finished Love Next Door, and it was so heartwarming. Even after I’m done eating, I stay glued to the screen, finishing a few more episodes.
5 PM - Screen break (?)
After binge-watching for a while, I start to feel the screen fatigue. This is when I decide to take a break from the digital world. Sometimes I’ll pick up a book, or if I’m in the mood, I might do some baking with music playing softly in the background. But most of the time, I just zone out and sit in silence. It sounds a little lazy, but zoning out can be surprisingly refreshing!
7 PM - Dinner (and more screen time)
By this time, it’s dinner. I usually make something really simple, so like pasta with pesto or bolognese. And of course, I’m watching something while I eat (my inner iPad kid strikes again).
Since I live in an accommodation, I’ll sometimes eat with my roommates. As much as I enjoy my peace and quiet, food just tastes better when you’re eating with someone, don’t you think?
8:30 PM - Best shower of the day
After dinner, I wait about half an hour before taking a shower. When it’s time, I take a long, luxurious shower - at least and hour, because why not? I scrub myself clean and emerge feeling like a new person. Then it’s time for my favorite part: Face masks! I love putting one on, and calling up a friend to gossip while sipping hot chocolate. It’s self-care at its finest.
10 PM - Clean, cozy, and ready for bed
There’s seriously nothing better than the feeling of being squeaky clean and sliding into bed. Top 10 best feelings in the world for sure. After brushing my teeth and finishing up my nighttime routine, I get comfy, relax, and just enjoy the peace. By this point, I’m ready to sleep - and for whatever the next day has in store for me.
What do you guys think? I think everyone should relax like this, but understandable if it’s not for everyone!
How do you guys relax?:)
