Team sports produce physical and psychological benefits

There's also a correlation between physical activity and academic performance. Athletes are usually better prepared to tackle on challenges than non-athletes due to their increased cognitivite ability that gets enhanced by sports.

Team sports are constant progression sessions that help develop personal attributes and soft skills, these are comprised of values such as:

  • Respect
  • Discipline
  • Patience
  • Selflessness

Communication

Communication in a sport is much more than just knowing how to speak, it's about knowing how to listen, how to intervene and also understanding when to be quiet. Verbal and non-verbal communication in a team environment is essential for a group to function and prosper. Teenagers tend to pick this up fast and develop/adapt to the new rules which translate to other things in life like a job.

Teamwork

Collaboration is an essential part of reaching a common goal as a group. Sports put together the most diverse pairing of personalities and scenarios and each individual goes through the same process of adapting, persist and develop patience so that they can be in the team and drive them forward.

A team comprised of a dozen of peers helps recognising individual talents, as such, working together helps people develop their respect for others and their unselfishness. The group is always at the high priority and this translates well into any part of our lives.

Build Self-Esteem and a Sense of Community

Team sports are built on 5 pillars:

  • competence
  • confidence
  • connections
  • character
  • caring

As a result, there's an increase in self-esteem due to better social interactions, stronger relationships, and higher academic performance. The sense of community created is a natural place where individuals that play sports feel a higher level of social support. Through the companionship of teammates, coaches and family members critical self-esteem is incubated.

In the end, the opportunity to participate in team sports provides individuals with valuable skills that will accompany them beyond the sport.
