With the new year here and the new semester starting it can be a great idea to add some new additions to your bedroom for the new year.
In this blog we will be discussing how you can revamp your room for the new year and things you can add to it.
As a university student, your room is more than just a place to crash at the end of a long day of lectures and late-night study sessions. It’s your creative space, and your personal hideaway from the chaos of student life. But if you're feeling like your flat has the personality of a beige wall, it might be time to give it a revamp. The best part? You don’t need big budget or a lot of time to create a space that feels fresh, fun, and totally you.
I have also included some pictures of my bedrooms through the years to give you some inspiration.
1- Pictures
Add lots of pictures of friends and family from home. Having these in different places in your room in different picture frames which match with your overall theme is a great way to feel more homely and give you those home comforts you are searching for.
Below is a picture of my third year uni room where you can see the different pictures and ornaments I have on my shelf as well as some Polaroids which you can see in other pictures which I have added to a pin board. These make me feel very at home and comforted.
2- Give it a good clean and refresh
Before you get all Pinterest-y with your room revamp, take a good hard look at what’s currently taking up space. Are there old coffee cups, discarded papers, or empty snack wrappers lingering around? A clean room is a great foundation for any makeover. It can also be great for a clear head for studying with.
Take a day to declutter and organise. Take out items that no longer serve you (like that broken lamp that’s been “getting fixed” for three months) and find better storage solutions for things like textbooks and random bits. A tidy space will instantly make it feel like a brand-new room.
It can be great to add things under your bed if you have storage there too.
3- Get some new ornaments or decorations
There is lots of places in town like Primark or B and M which have new ornaments for cheap prices and can look great and make your room more colourful for a homely feel.
Below is a picture of my second year uni room. As you can see I added some green fake plants, a rug, a lamp, some wall prints, some nice quotes and lots more.
4- Add some candles or diffusers
A fresh-smelling room is a total game-changer. Scented candles, essential oils, or reed diffusers can add a lovely fragrance and make your room feel cozy and welcoming. Try scents like lavender (great for de-stressing) or citrus (to keep you energised).
The febreze plug ins are really great for giving your whole room a total new smell and making it feel great as well as diffusers. Candles can be good but be sure to check with your accommodation if these are allowed first.
5- Add a lamp, fairy lights or coloured lighting
Fresh lighting can be great. These can be some cute fairy lights at the top of your bed or a coloured lamp which can make your room pink, blue or orange depending on your mood. You can get these from Amazon for quite cheap.
A nice lamp can also be nice to add some warm lighting if your regular light is quite bright.
