Moving out seems simple enough, but you forget how much stuff you have with you until you're packing it all up again. You might be surprised by how many things people can forget to pack, but don't worry.
We've got some weird and helpful tips so you don't forget anything:
The "Last Look" video 📱
Everyone has that one moment where they say, "Oh no", and they fear they've left something or not checked a certain place. Taking a slow video of your room, cupboards, and drawers just before leaving can save you from those anxieties, and it's also good to have in case you need to show the room's condition. Whilst filming, you can once again check in each place to make sure you've not left anything, rather than quickly scanning the room.
The "Hidden Spaces" search 🔍
This is a popular one to forget, but check behind everything, and we mean everything - even the toilet. Check the back of drawers, on top and behind wardrobes, and the furthest corners of the mattress for lost items.
The "Post-it" room 🟡
One good tip is to use colour-coded sticky notes to know what you're getting rid of, what's going to charity/recycling, what you're taking with you and what belongs to the university. That way, when you think you've packed everything that's yours, when you do your final checks, you can see by colour code that you haven't missed anything.
The "Mega" clean 🧽
You'll need to clean when you move out, but this is a good way to know if you've forgotten anything. Whether that's when you're cleaning out cupboards, your wardrobe, or vacuuming under the bed – you'll not miss a thing.
And a big bit of advice: clean like you've never cleaned before. Not only will it avoid any charges or deductions, but you might find something you've forgotten to pack or get rid of. We've made a moving-out checklist to help guide you through the cleaning process.
We hope you've enjoyed your time in halls and enjoy your summer! ☀️
