Meals that make for Perfect Leftovers

Posted 1 year ago

Who doesn't love leftovers?

Leftovers are the perfect meal after a long day of work and university. Personally, I love to cook meals on a less busy evening and eat them the next day when I know I just won't have the time to cook. the feeling of not having to cook and just having meals that taste even better the next day is a win for me. I want to give you a list of meals that you can try cooking and guarantee that they will make the perfect leftovers if executed perfectly!

List of Lovely Leftover Meals!

  1. Lasagna. Not loving lasagna is a crime and the extra charge is not making enough for next-day leftovers! Not only is it more tasty the next day, but it is also way easier to cut and serve once cooled.
  2. Stew! What's easier than chucking a bunch of meat, vegetables, and seasonings in a pot and brewing the perfect stew? The plus side to stew is the flavours develop overnight so the next day your food will taste even better.
  3.  Chilli. Oh, what a next-day bowl of chilli cannot do for you! The spice level is at the perfect heat the next day and will most certainly be a leftover favourite.
  4. Chicken Biryani. If you haven't had a leftover biryani for lunch, what are you doing? Served with some rita and salad, we're talking about a family favourite.
  5.  Chicken Roast. Isn't it lovely to have some Sunday roast dinner leftovers for lunch on a Monday at work? The feeling will take you straight back to your cozy Sunday evening.
  6. Stuffed Peppers. The best thing about stuffed peppers as leftovers is that they will never get soggy and mushy after a reheat.
  7. Chicken salad! Make yourself some perfectly seasoned grilled chicken and enjoy topping it off on top of your favourite salad. Mix it up the way you want. You could even add pasta to the mix.
  8. Chana Masala. For all my vegan/vegetarian babes this is a lovely and spicy leftover. Perfectly paired with rice and naan bread the next day.

Lasagna Ingredients

The Allrecipes community adores this lasagna recipe because it's incredibly customizable, so you can easily alter the ingredient list to suit your needs. If you want to stay true to the original recipe, though, these are the ingredients you'll need to add to your grocery list:

  • Meat: This super meaty lasagna has sweet Italian sausage and lean ground beef.
  • Onion and garlic: An onion and two cloves of garlic are cooked with the meat to add tons of flavor.
  • Tomato products: You'll need a can of crushed tomatoes, two cans of tomato sauce, and two cans of tomato paste.
  • Sugar: Two tablespoons of white sugar add a subtle sweetness and enhance the flavor of the sauce.
  • Spices and seasonings: This lasagna recipe is flavored with fresh parsley, dried basil leaves, salt, Italian seasoning, fennel seeds, and black pepper.
  • Lasagna noodles: Use store-bought or homemade lasagna noodles.
  • Cheeses: Parmesan, mozzarella, and ricotta cheese make this lasagna extra decadent.
  • Egg: An egg helps bind the ricotta so it doesn't ooze out of the lasagna when you cut into it.

How Long to Cook Lasagna?

The assembled lasagna should take about 50 minutes to cook in an oven preheated to 375 degrees F. Cover it with foil for the first 25 minutes, then let it cook uncovered for the final 25 minutes. Also, it's important to let the lasagna rest at room temperature for about 15 minutes before you cut into it.
