In this blog I’ll be exploring and explaining the importance of Movember, an event where men in November can grow out their moustaches, using this month and way of participating to raise awareness of Men’s health, ranging from the physical to mental: prostate and testicular cancer, and male depression, loneliness, and suicide.
The aim of this campaign is to detect these issue before they become a larger problem by promoting regular doctor’s visits, researching their family’s history of cancer, and adopting a healthier lifestyles, as well as generating conversation and make accessing help more normalised.
This cause has, since inception back in 2003, raised $837 million and funded over 1,200 projects in more than 20 countries. It has funded over 1200 men’s health projects globally, including but not limited to, TrueNTH, Nuts & bolts, Making Connections, Farmstrong, Ahead of the game, Iron man and PCF Challenge Awards.
Why is growing a moustache part of it?
“Growing a moustache is our symbol for better men’s health. It also grabs attention and starts important conversations.”
Men are able to take part and generate donations by making a profile on the Movember app. More information on how to take part is detailed on this official link! https://uk.movember.com/support-us/grow
“The moustache is a powerful symbol that stands for healthier men and a healthier world. Let it mesmerise and be spellbound, so you can start life-saving conversations about men’s health.”
