Moving into the Cycle Works, or thinking about it? With contemporary rooms, excellent facilities, and a vibrant atmosphere, it’s the ideal place for University of Coventry students to live, study, and socialise.
Watch our welcome tour video and take a look through the essential information below to find out everything you need to know.
Cycle works
When you arrive, you will be given a temporary access card to get through the outer doors, the speed gates at reception, your flat door and bedroom door, and the bin area outside the building.
Once you have enrolled, your Student ID card will provide you with the same access as the temporary card so you will need to give the temporary card back to reception. Failure to return this will result in a charge of £10.
There is a privacy button on the inside of your bedroom door to lock the door from the inside while you are inside. This needs to be off when you leave or else you will be locked out of your room. Please ensure this is not pushed in and the green band around the edge is visible when you leave.
The Cycle Works is a NO-SMOKING building. If you wish to smoke, please smoke outside the building at least 2 meters away from the entrance and any ground floor windows. Please ensure cigarette ends are disposed of in the smoking bins provided and not dropped on the ground.
Download the Wayfinder App to help you get around. Use it to access a Campus Map, your timetable, Protection Services, Aula for course materials and much more.
Heating times are 7am - 10am and 4pm - 11pm.
Hot water is available 24 hrs a day.
WE DO NOT allow extra portable heaters in your room or additional fridge/freezers - this is a breach of your terms and conditions and is a Health and Safety risk. For a full list of prohibited items, please refer to your Licence to Occupy.
This is a Wi-Fi building - on your device please scan for available Wi-Fi networks and select Glide_Signup and complete the free registration. Once done, you will receive a unique passphrase that you can use to login with any of your devices via Glide_Resident.
If you encounter any problems, please contact Glide on 0333 123 0115 or e-mail studentsupport@glide.co.uk outlining the issue you are experiencing.
Please do not put pictures/posters/LED strip lights on the walls in your room - blue tac will leave an oily residue, cellotape can peel the paint off, and pins will make holes in the walls.
Also, please do not keep high amounts of cash in your room, we strongly encourage you to open a UK bank account (if you do not already have one). Or, if you need to have a certain level of cash on your being, please purchase a lockable security box and put this in a safe place. If you do purchase one, please do not discuss it with anyone.
Should you have deliveries while you are residing here, reception collects all parcels/letters delivered.
Any letters will be placed in your flat post box at the reception area. Depending on your room type, your post box key will have either been provided on the desk hook inside your room, or on your flat noticeboard for all residents to use. To prevent losing it, please ensure that once you have finished using the key it is put back on your hook or on the noticeboard. A replacement for a lost key will incur a charge of £5.00.
For any parcels, we will send a notification e-mail to say you can come and collect these from us during reception opening hours (Monday to Friday, 8am – 7pm).
There is also an Amazon Locker located in Pool Meadow bus station which can be accessed late into evenings and over weekends.
There is a social space located on the ground floor of the building, which has:
- Pool tables (borrow pool cues/balls from reception)
- Table tennis tables (borrow rackets/balls from reception)
- Foosball tables
- Managed printer
- Vending machine (if you encounter any problems, please phone the number on the front of the machine)
There is also a bookable TV room and a PS4 to hire and use for up to 2 hours at a time.
Day Guests are required to be signed in and out at reception, no prior notice is needed.
Overnight Guest Forms must be completed in advance by no later than 4pm on the day of the guest arrival.
You can only have one overnight guest at a time, and you can have a maximum of 2 nights in a 7-day period.
No overnight guest forms will be authorised on a weekend/bank holiday so please submit for such dates ahead of time. Please familiarise yourself with the overnight guest policy.
Laundry facilities are available and these are located behind reception towards blocks F, G, H. These are accessed via the Washnet app which can be downloaded via your app store or by scanning the QR code on display in the Laundry room.
A wash is charged at £3.00 and a dry is £1.50.
If you have any maintenance issues, you can report these via our Estates portal. It can be found on the notice board in your flat corridor/kitchen or in your bedroom.
You can also come and speak to us at reception to get your problem fixed if you require further assistance.
In your flat kitchens, you will find general waste, recycling ,and food waste bins. We kindly ask you to separate your waste correctly.
- Please rinse off any food residue from recyclable items before disposing of them.
- The following items can be recycled: glass, paper and cardboard, tins and cans, yogurt pots, and plastic drink bottles.
- All other items should be disposed of in the general waste bin.
When the bins are full, it is your responsibility to empty them into the large bins located in the bin area outside, to the right of the reception doors. This area is accessible for rubbish disposal. If you are unsure of the location, please don’t hesitate to ask for assistance.
To maintain a clean and hygienic environment, we kindly remind you to empty the bins regularly. Your room is your responsibility whilst living in Halls. You will need to supply your own waste bags and regularly take your waste bags to the bins which are located outside the building.
Here are some additional tips for reducing your carbon footprint:
- Remember to turn off lights when they are not in use to reduce energy consumption.
- Consider shortening your shower time to 4 minutes to lower water usage.
Bike lockers for bicycles are available in our bike store (ask reception for more details).
E-scooters/E-bikes are not permitted on site.
Please call 024 7765 7363.
Please call this number if you have electrical or water problems over the weekend/out of hours as they can escalate this to the out-of-hours Estates team. They can also help with other queries/issues out of hours.
In a medical emergency please ring 999 and ask for an ambulance. You should also contact Protection Services who can help in the interim as they are all first aid trained.
If you need assistance for a non-life-threatening injury, you can again contact Protection Services.
You can also ring the 111 service for advice and guidance, or alternatively visit the walk-in centre. The walk-in centre is located on 2 Stoney Stanton Road, Coventry, CV1 4FH. This is a 10-minute walk from your accommodation.
ResLife Co-ordinators will be around holding events to encourage you to engage with your fellow residents and hold event nights here at The Cycle Works and off site too.
