there is no better time to get out walking in Coventry

As the weather gets warmer and it has turned into spring, there is no better time to get out walking in Coventry. However, due to it being a built up city, it can be difficult to know where to go to get out and about and see some green space. This blog will tell you some of the best walks within Coventry.

Walking can have lots of benefits to both your physical and mental health. Getting out and about an help you get your body moving especially after sitting at your desk all day revising. During exam times you can often feel stuck to your desk, even a 30 minute walk can give you the reset you need and will actually refresh you and make it easier to take in information as breaks are so important. It can also be important for your physical wellbeing as it is important to do some sort of exercise everyday. Also if your feeling low or struggling with your mental health in general going out in green spaces by yourself or with your friends can be a great way to help clear your mind.

Coombe Abbey Park -

The first and best walk in my opinion around Coventry is Coombe Abbey Park. This is around 20 minutes away from the city centre but you can also get a bus directly to it from Pool Meadow Bus station. A taxi there is also cheap and even cheaper when split with friends.

The park is 500 acres of gardens, woodland, lakes and nature. There is the abbey, a cafe and lots to do and explore there. There is a park and even a go ape if you want to get adventurous! There is lots of flowers and nature to explore and you could spend a full day there exploring or just go for a short walk.

You could pack a picnic and sit in the sun with friends or have a walk around the park. It is a great day out.

Coventry Canal Basin -

The Coventry Canal is 38 miles long but the best place to go for a walk is coventry canal basin which you can find just behind Bishop Gate.

This is a great day out or if you just walk a short 30 minute walk along the river. There is lots of wildlife along the  river and you can also take part in the Coventry art trail which contains lots of artwork which you can find out more about on the canal basin website.

There is also bridges along the canal and lots of canal boats you can have a look at. This is a great walk in the city centre of coventry which is easily accessible for a short walk or a full day out.

There is also lots of cafes along the canal basin as well as places for breakfast and lunch.

War memorial park -

This is around a 20-30 minute walk from the centre of coventry but it is still close enough.

This is a great large  open green space to explore and enjoy a day out with. There is several paths to explore or you can also walk the diameter to get your steps in. There is also the war memorial in the park which is really interesting to look at if you want to explore.

There is 3 cafes within the park including a dessert cafe, an ice cream kiosk and a bistro. This is great if you are wanting to spend all day at the park but also there is lots of green space for you to take and eat with a picnic.

Sowe Valley footpath is a 81/2 mile route from the north to the south of Coventry. However you don’t have to do the whole route but it a great area to explore.

Along the path there is the Wyken Slough nature reserve which has lots of nature including birds. This is a lovely area to explore and look at. There is also several other nature reserves along the path.

There is also lots of rivers, pretty flowers, woodlan, bridges and even a pub.

This is a great path to explore for a full day out or just take a small walk along for some time out the house.

We hope this blog has helped you learn some of the great places you can explore in and around Coventry. There are also lots more places you can research too. Remember how important it is to get out and explore.
