Tips on how to meal prep for a busy uni week

Salute to my tough warriors, who are going through a busy week of assignments/exams, and hello to those who aren’t.

Between back-to-back lectures, late-night study sessions, and the occasional night out, eating well can easily fall to the bottom of your uni to-do list (all the time). That’s where meal-prepping swoops in to save the day.

Why meal prep?

Meal prepping is like your future self giving you a big kiss on the forehead. You:

  • Save time
  • Avoid food waste
  • Save money
  • Eat healthier (no more takeaways)

Tips for meal prep during a busy week

1. Plan your meals before you shop

Start with 4-5 recipes you actually want to eat to avoid boredom. Use apps like Notion to organise your week.

2. Batch cook like crazy

Think big pots of stir fry, pasta bakes, or curry. These reheat well and can be switched up with sides like wraps or rice.

3. Invest in reusable containers

Glass or just plastic containers - whatever fits your budget. Label them with the date cooked and stack them by meal in the fridge.

4. Schedule a prep day

You’ll be working HARD in that kitchen, so you might want to do it on a day you’re not gonna be busy at all. Throw in some music or podcast, and prepare to be in the kitchen for at least 3 hours.

5. Don’t forget snacks and brekkie

Cut up fruit, boil some eggs, and prepare overnight oats to keep your energy through lectures.

Save money

  • Buy in bulk - pasta, rice, oats, cans... things that are cheap and go far.
  • Frozen food - get frozen veggies and fruit! they last long and are just as nutritious.
  • Use discounts on apps.

Avoid food waste!

  • Repurpose leftovers into wraps, salads, or stir-fries.
  • Freeze portions if you’re not eating them within 3 days.
  • Check the expiry dates on your food items.

As much as I’d love to show you guys how I meal prep and be the influencer I aspire to become - I do not have any videos of meal prepping, so instead, I’ll share a reel from an influencer who is quite famous for her cheap and yummy meal preps!

Meal prepping sounds like a pain, I know. But think about it, you’re only going through that pain once during those 3 ish hours but you’re basically sorted for the week! So convenient right? Welp, I hope this is gonna help you guys :) Have fun meal prepping!
