Hello my dearest readers! University life is exciting, but it can also be a challenge to maintain a healthy lifestyle. With busy schedules, late nights, and the temptation of fast food, it’s easy to slip into unhealthy habits. However, staying healthy doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are some simple yet effective health hacks to keep you kinda in shape?
Walk more!
Walking is one of the easiest ways to stay active, and it’s completely free! Instead of taking the bus for short journeys, try walking to lectures/around campus and shops. Not only does this help you stay fit, but it’s also a great way to clear your mind and explore your surroundings. Plus with all the groceries you’re getting, you’re basically lifting too.
Learn to cook simple, healthy meals
Living in halls often means relying on quick meals or ordering takeout, but that’s just how to become broke faster. Learning a few basic recipes can make a huge difference to your health and energy levels. Start with easy dishes like stir-fries, pasta (THIS is so easy trust me) with vegetables, or homemade wraps. Prepping meals in advance can also save you time and money!
Join the gym or do sports society
Coventry University offers a gym in the sports centre as well as other halls for different activities like badminton, basketball, etc. You can also take advantage of the student discounts on Student Beans for gyms outside of university! Regular exercise can boost your mood, reduce stress, and improve concentration. If the gym isn’t your thing, consider joining a sports society or trying a fun fitness/yoga class.
Stay hydrated and eat smart
It’s easy to forget to drink enough water when you’re busy, but staying hydrated is essential for focus and energy. Keep a reusable water bottle with you at all times, even if you do run out of water, the university has water fountains almost everywhere. Also, try to balance your diet with plenty of fruits, veggies, and protein-rich foods. Follow the 5 veggies and fruits a day by adding veggies to ur meals and having fruits afterwards as a snack (that’s how I do it). This doesn’t mean you have to swap out snacks entirely for healthy stuff, just be mindful of how much you’re consuming.
Beauty sleep
I know it sounds almost impossible for us students and late-night study sessions can make it hard to get enough sleep, but rest is crucial for both mental and physical health. Try to maintain a consistent sleep routine - like trying to sleep at the same time everyday, getting 8 hours of sleep, and waking up at a certain time.
Take breaks
University life can be overwhelming, so taking breaks is important. Take a short walk, a yoga session, or just chat with friends - small breaks can help reduce stress. If you’re feeling really overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to reach out to campus support services either.
Staying healthy in university doesn’t have to be complicated. By making small changes (we don’t talk about going to the gym) you can keep your body and mind in top shape.
